Ready for a new solving twist? Dell Sum-Doku combines the popular solving elements of Sudoku and Kakuro Cross Sums.
Each volume is composed of over 170 puzzles in easy, medium and hard levels designed to delight and challenge the mind of every solver. New to sudoku? No problem. Detailed puzzle-solving instructions are included. A Sum-Doku puzzle combines elements of Sudoku and Kakuro Cross Sums. Each small 9-box square within the larger diagram must contain the numbers 1 through 9, as must each row across and each column down. However, you’ll notice that the puzzle also contains a number of areas surrounded by dotted lines, each one with a small number in the upper left corner. The digits to be entered into each of these areas must add up to the number in the corner, and all of the digits in each of these areas must be different. Since dotted-lined areas may cross over heavy lines, these areas can contain digits from more than one small 9-box square. So, for example, if there’s a cage made up of two boxes and the total sum for the cage is 4, the only possibilities for the boxes are 1 and 3 in some order. The numbers 2 and 2 couldn’t work since that would mean repeated digits in a row, column, or cage, which isn’t allowed. The correct placement of the 1 and 3 will depend on the other clues available in the diagram, that is, on how these digits will “fit” with the others in their respective rows, columns, and 9-box squares. Though there may be several possible combinations of digits for a given cage, only one combination, with the digits in one particular order, will correspond with the correct placement of 1 through 9 in your rows, columns, and 9-box squares. Test your brain power with the following Sudoku puzzle.
